The role of the altar servers is to assist the celebrant(s) in the celebration of Mass and other services. All altar servers become member of the Guild of St Stephen and hold a special celebration at church on the Feast of St Stephen (26th December).
The church has strong connections with Our Lady of Compassion primary school and children who have made their First Holy Communion are encouraged to begin their training as altar servers. The training takes a year and covers all aspects of serving, during which time servers receive a green cord. Following their completion of training servers receive a red cord and as years of service continue this changes to a blue, and eventually a gold cord.
The guild is open to all, and if you would like to join, or find out more information, please see Fr Biju or Alan Bresnan after Mass, or email
