The craft group is primarily a social group who meet on a Thursday afternoon in the Ullathorne Room and share patterns, craft ideas, and chat. The craft group explores different types of craft, and currently has a strong basis in knitting and crochet. All new members, and abilities, are welcome and we are happy to share our knowledge and teach our craft to others, as well as learn new things.
As a group, we support all our members, learning from each other and sharing a love of making craft items. When a number of items have been made, these are often put on sale, in association with the Piety Stall, to raise much needed funds for the SCJ Missions and the Church building fund. Each item is made with love, care, and attention to detail, and therefore each item is unique and personal, making beautiful gifts for all ages.
Although knitting and crochet may not immediately appear to be faith-focussed, it does help to channel our love of the parish community, supporting and sharing with others. We also take great strength from the words ‘Each of us can learn something from others’: the words of Pope Francis in Fratelli Tutti. This is true not only for us as a craft group but for each and every person in our parish community, wider social community and throughout the world. We enjoy meeting, learning, crafting, chatting, and sharing a cup of tea: these are all that are needed to be a member of the Friary Craft Group.
