Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross - a virtual pilgrimage

through the Old City in Jerusalem

An Invitation from Dom Wright, Vicar of St Margaret's, Olton to the local churches:

Dear Churches Together Group,

Since we can’t meet up like we normally do for the Walk of Witness on Good Friday but I’ve thought that we should take this opportunity to do something that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do.

The idea is that we take a virtual pilgrimage through the Old City in Jerusalem following in the footsteps of the traditional route that Jesus took between his trial and his crucifixion. I will navigate us using Google Street View online. We will stop off at some of the stations of the cross on the Via Dolorossa on the way. The Stations of the Cross is a Catholic tradition and many of you will have seen the stations around the inside of some churches. What is exciting about this pilgrimage is that we can see where the actual stations are as we go on this virtual walk.

Fr Austin and Father Biju will explain and do a reflection at each of the stations that we stop at. We will also have a relevant bible reading and Joe Belcher will lead us in sung worship at some of the stops as we get towards the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the place of Jesus’s crucifixion.

For those who have been to the Holy Land before I’m hoping that it will be a good reminder. For those who have not I’m hoping that it will be inspiring and draw us closer to Jesus.

The way to join this pilgrimage at 11am on Friday will be simply to click on the following link to the St Margaret's, Olton Facebook page.

Please note: You don’t actually need to join Facebook to do this. If you are not already on Facebook you will be invited to join but you can just click that away. For those not familiar with Facebook it would be worth trying out this link before Friday but it's very easy.

Please let Dom Wright know if you don’t own a smartphone or computer so he can let you know how to join using a traditional phone handset. Obviously, you won’t be able to see anything as we travel through the streets of Jerusalem but you might appreciate joining in this way.

Please go to the St Margaret’s Facebook page on Friday at 11am.

The stations of the cross pdf is HERE for you to download before the event. (for the music sheet CLICK HERE)

Blessings,

Dom Wright
